The Story of the CKL Logo

Hello!

The story of how this logo came into life could be traced all the way back to a core memory of my grandmother teaching my how to braid yarn one year at Thanksgiving but to keep things short and simple, I created this logo to have custom tags on the crochet projects I made for friends, family, and myself. I’ve been creating since I could remember, always taking yarn with me on family road trips and doing my best to make functional but pretty products.

At the start of 2025, I took on the big project of making my first granny square crochet cardigan for myself. With no plan other than colored yarn I really liked and a lot of hope, I finished the project within a month! A close friend of mine made a passing comment they would love to have something made by me that they could wear as well so I decided on a quick project of a hat. Yet how will anyone know that these are handmade items by me? After a quick Esty search I saw the world of possibilities open for me for custom tags I could put on all of my creations.

On Etsy there were so many different options for tags but I wanted something unique for myself. Not only that but I’ve been an artist my entire life, why wouldn’t I have a logo for my work? Now came time to pick what represents me. What symbols showcase my life? How do I want to capture the essence of who I am as an artist? I don’t have any defining symbols in my life but growing up I did always draw the same flower on all of my school work and anywhere else I had the chance to.

I started with flowers, but then I wanted something more. If I had no symbolic images in my life then I would go for something I just really like to look at. I picked strawberries as they are my favorite fruit, I find them visually appealing, and as a redhead I felt they could also describe me. I couldn’t leave out the flowers though so I included the flowers that bloom on strawberry plants. Traditionally the flowers that bloom are white so I did take artistic liberty to change their color for my logo.

Choosing to use “CKL” instead of just my first or last name was an easy choice that comes from how I was required to sign my art work in school. When I was around 15 I started signing all of my personal artwork with the same initials I was required to use for school projects so that all of my artwork would be uniform in how it was signed. To this day I will always sign my art with my initials verse my formal signature.

The logo art is drawn by me digitally, and then edited in Adobe Illustrator to add the frames and convert the art into usable formats for all the needs I may have of my logo.
